League happenings in the Park Forest Area

League News

President Mary Truss Welcome to the league of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area. The League of Women Voters of the Park Forest Area was established in 1949. The LWVPFA is composed of men and women from different ethic backgrounds, which makes us one of the most diverse leagues in Illinois. We represent the communities of Bourbonnais, Chicago Heights, Crete, Matteson, Mokena, Monee, Olympia Fields, Park Forest, Peotone, Richton Park, Steger and University Park. With the cooperation of the Mayors and Board of Trustees our goal is to enhance and highlight each community with a major event in each community; for example, the House Tour in Park Forest, and the Woman of the Year Black & White Gala in University Park.

We (LWVPFA) are a nonpartisan organization but we do encourage our members to support those candidates of their personal choice. We study issues and if we come to a consensus we take a stance on these issues. The League is interested in studying new programs and issues, so email us with your comments or ideas. You are also invited to join our progressive organization.

Voter education and service are also a major part of our activity. The league is an extended link between the county clerk and the community. We provide service to the counties of Cook and Will. We register voters in high schools, community colleges/universities, conduct candidate forums, Election Day poll reporting and perform mock elections. So, as you can see, we need a strong membership to help achieve our goals.

The public is always welcome to attend our meetings.

President, LWVPFA
